Albert Schweitzer became the fifth Weatherbird Artist when Amadee retired in 1981. He is known for drawing Weatherbird with bow-ties and having several Birds drawn ahead of time in case of emergencies. He was also the first to draw Weatherbird in color. Schweitzer wanted to give the Weatherbird a personality of his own, but keep him fimiliar to readers. He retired from the Post-Dispatch in 1986, after 41 years of working at the Post.
